The climax of the big day is a DJ party and behind the turntable will be DJ Pearl, known for her dance numbers. Her lively music will rock the dance floors and you will find it difficult not to ‘dance to her tunes’. As you lose yourself in the rhythm set by her music you will forget about the action-packed day you just had and feel the day has just begun.
To say that DJ Pearl is one among a handful of female disk jockeys in the country would be doing her injustice as she is not ‘just one among them’ but is one among the finest DJs and definitely the best female DJ in India. She is known for her tech sound and electro rhythm and has played in many happening clubs around the world.
Pearl mostly plays dance numbers that have a fast beat. Her speciality is house music, a kind of music that was unheard of in India. It was Pearl who pioneered the music here and today the genre is a phenomenon across the country.
Music had greatly influenced Pearl right from her childhood as she grew up surrounded by music. But her passion towards the turntable began a decade ago when she was travelling across the globe, stopping at almost all of the top clubs in the world for a perfect night out. It was when Pearl was touring Europe, Amsterdam to be specific, she realised that deeejaying was her way of life and then began the relentless efforts to create a style, that is uniquely hers.
She started her career in small clubs. Her family had stood firm against her decision to take up deejaying a profession but later became her biggest supporters.
Pearl considers Zavier Perek from Amsterdam as her role model though she admits that she has been influenced by a number of other DJs.
She is one of the co-founders of Submerge, India’s first electronic music party which serves as a platform for upcoming DJs in the country. Submerge promotes underground music, a different kind of music that is all the rage in various European countries. Submerge also brings home some of the world’s finest DJ talents.
Pearl believes in reinventing herself and her music and never does any two of her musical pieces sound the same. She is married to Nikhil Chinappa, the MTV VJ.
