DAM 999 is a Hollywood movie that tells a story about mariners and life at sea. The project was launched on 30 April 2008 in Kochi and the shooting will commence on 1 January 2010.
Marine BizTV, world’s first global maritime television channel is the producer of the movie and Sohan Roy, the CEO of Aries Telecasting Limited, the parent company of Marine BizTV, is the director of the movie.
It is for the first time that a movie produced by mariners for mariners is being made. Most part of the movie will be shot in Kerala. The movie can boast of some eminent film personalities from Hollywood and Bollywood industries.
DAM 999 revolves around a deteriorated dam in India that was built during the colonial rule. There are nine characters in the movie and each one of them has a persona that is dominated by one of the navarasas, the same concept on which the fashion event is centred. The dam in the movie is a symbol of obstruction and contained emotions. Like the dam, the characters in the movie restrain their emotions. Finally a day comes when the dam bursts and with it the mysteries of the characters are also unfolded.
The Hollywood venture has set its sights on wiping out the negative image of the marine world created by some of the movies and media. The movie will focus on positive aspects of the sea in order to attract more people to the field so as to resolve the recent crisis of manpower shortage.
It will promote talents from the marine industry and five of the nine leading characters will be played by persons working in the marine industry itself. Marine BizTV has launched a global search to identify persons with acting skills in the marine community to be a part of this venture.
The movie will warn about the possible dangers posed by the existing ‘colonial dam’. It will showcase the unseen world of sea and its hidden splendour.
Most part of the movie will be shot in a commercial ship. Even before the movie is out, a character in it has received wide recognition. For the first time in the history of cinema, a character has been established through a blog, Sailor’s Diary, a blog written by Captain Fredrick Brown, one of the leading characters.
Captain Brown is the voice of the marine community and Sailor’s Diary, a forum for raising the needs and concerns of the maritime industry. Know more about Captain Brown and his adventurous life through www.sailorsdiary.com.
DAM 999 is associated with the prestigious Motion Pictures Association of America. The promo of the movie was showcased at Hong Kong International Film Mart, International Film Festival of India, Goa and International Film Festival of Kerala, Trivandrum.
January 10 witnessed the much awaited cast launch held alongside Navarasa, the fashion event. The movie is expected to hit the theatres by the end of 2010.
